“The concert series and Oktoberfest are for families and people of all ages,” said Hatton Gravely, marketing director for The Market Common. “Other cities have Friday concert series where everyone in the community comes out. We want this to be just that, a locals' happy hour that kicks off the weekend where you can also go out to dinner and shop.”
Gordon Biersch's Oktoberfest-themed items include bratwurst, pretzels with beer mustard, braised red cabbage, sauerkraut and beer by award-winning brewer Pete Velez and the on-site brewery. On Saturday, a tent will house over 25 Oktoberfest beers ranging in price from $3-$5.
“Our beer is brewed in accordance to German purity laws, which refers to using only four ingredients. The ingredients are water, malted barley, hops and yeast,” said Helen Degennaro, manager of Gordon Biersch. “We'll continue to serve food and beer during the rest of the concerts as well.”
The Oktoberfest German Festival features music by the Rheingold Band and children's activities including face painting, balloon art, a bounce house and pumpkin painting in which the art supplies will be provided by the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum.
“We've really put a lot of effort into this. The whole month is Oktoberfest, which really is our favorite time of the year,” Degennaro said. “The festival is authentic in that we have a great beer selection, a great German Band that will be dressed in lederhosen and the girls will be dressed as beer wenches.”
